Florida Judo Ki no Fuda's Editorial![]() |
Some Random ThoughtsI am sorry but I have some randoms thoughts that I would like to share instead of staying on just one topic. We're entering the summer tournament season in June and July 2006. Besides the Sunshine States Games (June 16-18, 2006 in Miami, FL) and the Jr. US Open (July 28-30, 2006 in Fort Lauderdale, FL), we have the USJA Junior Nationals (July 14-16, 2006 in Boca Raton, FL) and the USJF Junior Nationals (July 21-23, 2006 in in Fort Lauderdale, FL). And later in the year, Florida also has the US Open (Oct. 20-22, 2006 in Miami, FL). And for the first time the US Open has masters (30 years of age and older) divisions. For more information on these events and other checkout the Judo Events page. I also hope our Florida Judoka take advantage of the opportunities that these major tournaments being in our state provide. Communication within Judo in Florida has increased over the last few months. But we, me included, need to work together even more. We need to find the time to have a scheduling meeting (open to everyone), so we all have information on upcoming Judo events happening within the state of Florida. And so we do NOT have conflicts causing our athletes, coaches, and workers to chose between events. I am not sure when and where it would be best to have this meeting, but we certainly have an opportunity to meet at any of the major tournaments. But I feel strongly about it. It also helps people because they are NOT getting last minute notice about events to possibly attend these events. I know that we can make this work. A group of people that tend to not get as much attention that they deserve is the Technical Officials that work tournaments. The referees get some recognition and for the most part they get a break during the day. The technical officials, especially at state and local events, do not always get a break. Please take the time to thank all tournament volunteers, even those working behind the scenes. Most of them would rather be watching their own kids or teammates, but they stick it out to help the tournament go. And this group tends to get yelled at by coaches, parents, and referees. Remember these people are also volunteers trying their best. So when a tournament gets done, remember to thank those that worked the tournament so you or your kid or student could play. Thanks for reading through some of my thoughts about Judo within Florida. I really do hope that you enjoy the information that is provided in the Ki no Fuda.
